I need your help!

Well, the count down to vacation is on! Jason and I leave two weeks from tomorrow for our extended trip to the southern coast of Spain. When we found the house that we rent in Cambridge, we ended up falling into quite the sweetheart of a deal. The owners used to live and work in Cambridge, but many years ago moved to Anytown, USA where he is now a department head at Midwest University.Over the years, he's really be sucked into the administrative bureaucracy of running a department, so he and his wife now really look forward to coming back to Cambridge each August to get away from it all. They usually rent this house on a more short term basis than our two year stay here, so the house has always been empty and awaiting their return. This year, anticipating that they might have to cancel their annual trip because we would be occupying the house, they offered us a deal that was too good to pass up: If we would vacate for the month, we could leave all of our belongings here and keep the month's rent money. Hmmm....YES!! Villa in Spain, here we come! We've rented this cute little villa - Villa Casa Loma - perched on the edge of a cliff in the tiny Spanish town of Salobrena:

We'll be there for the entire month and, although we plan to do a lot of sight seeing and catching up with friends and family (Jason's parents and brother will visit at the beginning of the month and two of our closest friends from graduate school later in the month), we're also looking forward to some serious R&R. For me, this will come in the form of lots of laying around on the patio or beach taking part in one of my favorite pastimes - reading.

This is where you come in. I read so much that I often find myself struggling to find new things to read. So, tell me! What are some really good books you've read lately? All time favorites? I need your suggestions! I am pretty open to a wide range of genres and subject matters with the exception of anything "fantasy-like;" for example, I never could get into the Harry Potter series or the other one (drawing a blank on the name now) that had a bunch of elves and fairies and that scary alien-looking creature that was always running around trying to steal the magic ring or something...anyway, doesn't matter, I'm just not into that kind of thing. Other than that, let's hear what you've got! AJD, because I'm guessing you might really be able to come through for me here, I should also say that I'll even take a sports-related suggestion or two (why not?... I really enjoyed Lance Armstrong's It's Not About the Bike) however, I have to put anything translated from Latin or discussing ancient Rome out of bounds...sorry, this is a vacation!

Hi Mica,

I am reading The Power of One... I have not finished it but think it is a great book... I was going to give you a Wikipedia link, but when I started reading it was giving away stuff, so I stopped reading... All I can tell you is that it is about a boy in South Africa during the 1930s-1940s... This novel has funny and sad moments... I am not into LoR or HP either...

Well, just a suggestion... =)

Hope you guys have lots of fun in Spain,

Mónica
