Storming the Castle

From the patio of our villa, we can see old town Salobrena which has been build up on the side of a large rock formation surrounded on all sides by very flat plains. At the top of the rock formation is an old Arab Castle.

The steep, narrow, winding streets of old town Salobrena are an absolute nightmare to navigate so, to visit the castle, you have to park at the bottom and walk up. Yesterday we finally decided to make our way to the top. This picture makes the walk look deceptively flat - let me assure you, flat it most definitely was not!

A neat old staircase led up to the castle entrance. Here are Jarod and Lisa on their way up:

The views from the castle walls were amazing:

Here's a view looking toward our villa. It's one of those white dots on the hillside, but don't ask me which one!

And, Terry enjoying the view:

Taking a break before the hike back down:

Once we made our way back into town, we met up with Jason for lunch. Nobody was very interested in trying this man's sardines with me, but make my words, I'm going to be brave and try them before we leave!

Those sardines look tasty, I'd try one!
