Road Trip! - Thornbury Castle

Ever since she was in England last, Terry has been telling us that, on her next visit, she really wanted to stay in a castle. So, I did some searching around and found Thornbury Castle - a castle just north of Bath that has been converted in to a hotel while still maintaining most of it's original character. Following our directions, we passed through Thornbury before approaching the castle gatehouse on the outskirts of the small village:

The approach up the drive was amazing and I kept asking, "Am I supposed to be driving here?!"

Our rooms were equally impressive, each with its own distinctive character.

The view out our window was of the castle grounds, the old castle walls, and the village church beyond.

And our beautiful four poster bed was one of the most comfortable we've slept in in a long time!

Even the toilet paper was palatial!

John and Terry's room was equally characterful. It was located up a steep, bending staircase and through a little hobbit door:

Jason had a rough time getting in and out of the room when he went to see it:

After we had settled in our rooms, we headed down to the library for a formal afternoon tea.

We couldn't believe the options they presented us with! In addition to cream tea, we were given our own private selection of treats: on the bottom - some sort of cream filled pastries, in the middle - brownies, carrot cake, and scones, and on top - butter and jam for the scones:

There was also chocolate mousse with pistachios!

Having eaten an incredible amount of sweets, we decided to try to walk some of it off exploring the castle grounds which included the castle itself:

Beautifully manicured gardens:

And some castle ruins:

Definitely a once in a life time experience that we won't soon forget!

Next stop: Cheddar Gorge

Which would be better for Jason a foot off his legs or his head so he can get through tight spots?
