Our Own Statistically-Unlucky Little World
Did you know that car insurance companies jack up your insurance premiums even if you're in an accident that's not your fault? And even if they never pay out a penny for these accidents? I didn't, but I'm quickly learning! In the last 5 years, I've been rear-ended twice and Jason once. In all these 'incidents' (that's what the insurance company likes to refer to them as) we have been at no fault and the other drivers' insurance companies have covered all the damages, but companies that we are now looking to for future insurance don't seem to care that we ourselves have impeccable driving records...only that the odds are stacked against us.
After much searching, I finally found a company that doesn't consider your first 2 not-at-fault accidents in setting their policy rates. I called the other day to set these policies up for Jason and I and the agent I spoke with informed me that, should Jason and I open one, joint policy, we would receive considerable savings due to a multiple-car discount they offer. I thought, "Great, lets do it!"...then he quoted me the rate. It was almost $200 more than if we were to open separate policies. I asked the agent where the discount was. He informed me that while we were receiving a $500 discount for insuring multiple-cars on one policy, our coverage rate had increased $700 because, together, we have more than 2 not-at-fault accidents. Unbelievable!
I told him to forget it, we didn't want his multiple-car discount and came to the sad conclusion that the world of statistics is frowning on Jason and I.

Jason - Pastor Larry wanted to know if this is a Pair-a-Docs.
As cold as Chicagoland is in the winter, I hope we don't become a Pair-a-Docs-icle.
