Are you kidding me?!

So, I know it's been a while since I've posted, but I'm back to work and have actually had stuff to do during the day...it's been an adjustment! Add to that a two-hour round-trip commute every day and all of a sudden the free time is zapped. Due to the lack of free time, I've taken to what I like to call "selective posting". In other words, the story's got to be pretty darn good before I deem it "post worthy". Lucky for you, today I had quite the experience at the gym.

Given enough time in the day, I could actually probably post every single day about some strange encounter at the gym. I seem to attract old, naked women who want to have odd conversations while changing in the locker room...they have proven unavoidable, even when I go to GREAT lengths to avoid eye contact at all cost. (Sorry for the mental image, but if I have to live it on a daily basis, I feel like others should have to suffer with me!) In any case, today's post isn't about locker room conversations...

It's been pretty warm in Chicago this week, getting up to the high 90's. So, the gym has been cranking their big industrial fans:

I appreciate the fans because the do create a nice breeze that makes for a nice, comfortable workout temperature. Today, however, I encountered a serious problem involving the fans....

There I was, minding my own business as I worked out on a carefully selected elliptical trainer at which one of these fans was directly pointed. I was probably about 10 feet away from the fan, enjoying it's nice breeze, when a larger gentleman decided to step directly in front of it to stretch out. Needless to say, he completely blocked my breeze from the fan...I wasn't happy. Finally, he left and all was well again...at least I thought. About five minutes later, he was back! This time, he appeared to just be there to cool himself. He hung out in front of the fan for a few minutes and was gone again. This cycle repeated itself a few times and I finally caught on to what he was doing. He was there to lift weights and in between each set, he would return to cool himself by the fan. The problem was, about three or for sets in, he really started to sweat...A LOT...and it REALLY smelled BAD!

Here's what he would do each time he returned to the fan:

1) Face it and take a deep breath
2) Lift both arms high in the air
3) Turn slightly to each side as he really let the breeze get to each arm pit
4) Turn his back to the fan and lift up his shirt to really get a breeze going

It was the most disgusting experience of my life...the smell was awful! I keep thinking, does this guy really not realize that he's blowing his BO all over me?? Finally I got so disgusted that I actually curled up my noise at him...I know Mom, that wasn't a very polite thing to do, but I needed to give him the hint! And don't worry, he wasn't offended, apparently he thought that was my way of saying hello because in return, he smiled and nodded at me!

And so continued my workout...BO spray, nose snarl, smile, repeat...
