Some evils can't be escaped

Today I had a meeting in a part of Cambridge I don't frequent very often. We live and work pretty much in the center of town - near the university and the historic market place. From this central area, Cambridge has grown outward in all directions. Being that our only means of transportation are our bicycles and that we live where most of the action is, we've never really had much of a need to explore further afield. Today, given the rare opportunity to do some exploring further out, I took off for my meeting a little early. What did I discover?

I stared at it for quite some time trying to figure out what the heck Poundland might be. One step inside gave it away. The infamous "Dollar Store" is alive and thriving in the UK as well. And here I thought the British were so much more refined than us...

I cannot believe it. I agree the British feel that Americans are below them. A pound store does not sound like it would flourish in the UK. Happy shopping!

I was just looking through some of my photos from York and I, too, have a shot of a Poundland. I think it cracked me up when I saw it, and I remember taking a picture to show Katie because she loves bargain stores. Never made it inside, however.

By the way, have you discovered TK Maxx yet? I saw one in Nottingham. Same font as our TJ Maxx back in the States, same store, same owners, but for some reason they switched "TJ" to "TK."
